Having a freeze cue (I use ‘wait’) is sooooo helpful for things like this - I can ask her to freeze in the correct position and it reduces frustration massively from her trying to figure out what I’m asking her to do!

This girl just keeps surprising me - day 1 of teaching her ‘shy’!!!!

The cue currently is her sitting on the kids swimming float, which makes it sooooo much easier for her to understand what I would like her to do, than if she was just sitting on the floor!

I’ll tidy it up a little bit over the next few days then add a verbal cue, put a towel on top of the float, then take the float out from underneath the towel before finally seeing if she can do it sitting on the floor - I will ask for it several times sitting on the towel in a session before taking the towel away then immediately cueing it again, and I would expect I might need to use the towel at the start of several sessions before she doesn’t need it anymore!

So pleased with how Zoe is progressing!

Can’t believe she’ll be 7 months old next week, she’s growing up so quickly 🐾

Katie was happy to be out with us on a sunny evening, and at age 14 she’s chief supervisor and sampler of treats!
She hasn’t been well recently and there was concern that she potentially had a tumour in her liver - thankfully there’s no sign of a tumour but her gallbladder is massive and likely full of sludge, which she’s on medication to hopefully clear, and her pancreas isn’t working properly so she’s on enzymes to help her digest her food. She’s definitely feeling better! 🐾

As you can see he’s very right pawed and he will always use it rather than his left in situations like this, or if he’s trying to dislodge his favourite ball from under the sofa! He will use his left equally for things like digging, but for precision it’s always his right!

Hands up if you’ve ever booked a secure field and turned up with a barking pot before? 🙋‍♀️

Zoe has been worried about hearing dogs barking, this was initially triggered by an off lead collie running round a corner at us on her 3rd walk (on a fairly busy road so it was totally unexpected!)

She was making good progress and then we had another incident which made her totally regress, and her worries spread to seeing dogs and people in the distance.

We’ve been playing our ‘Happy Bucket Game’ daily (comment ‘Happy’ if you’d like more info on our Happy Bucket Game Mini Course!) and now we are at the point of moving things onto different set-ups to help her feel confident when she does encounter barking dogs

I have a Bluetooth speaker and initially I started playing music quietly through it, then progressed to ‘louder than I’d normally have’ music, then back to normal volume music with 1-2 seconds of barking every 30 seconds, then 1-2 seconds of barking every 15 seconds and then 3-5 seconds of barking every 30 seconds and so on, until we got to continual barking and then we are now working on building in some silence so she experiences intermittent barking, which is what she is likely to encounter in real life!

We’ve also been working on her feelings about seeing people and dogs in the distance and she’s making excellent progress - it’s been a strange one to work on as she is the complete opposite of every case of reactivity I’ve ever dealt with! (Normally dogs cope better with triggers at a big distance and struggle the closer they get!)
We’ve done lots of ‘look at that!’ - initially clicking as soon as she looks at a potential trigger and then progressing to giving her a chance to offer to disengage, as well as incorporating some fun trick training into our walks when there’s people and dogs around - starting initially in a park where they were close (felt so strange doing things the opposite way round to normal!) and then progressively worked up to being able to work through people and dogs being further away!
